"Mysterious Chairs" began appearing!
About 10 days have passed since the beginning of the semester and "mysterious chairs" began appearing as expected though each class is still in pretty much full. For 1101, Hiragana memorizing lesson has almost finished and by the mid-next week, Hiragana must be mastered. So another wave of "shaping up the class" will come soon before really getting into the "Language Learning mode." The size of 2201 is just a good size and I really hope everyone be successful in his or her individual goal setting! This is the first week of September so the first Friday event day is coming up and hope to see as many faces as I can on Friday 9/5. Japanese prime minister resigned again a few days ago, and as an overseas Japanese I feel kind of shame of our leaderships' irresponsibility in the important political arena. After the long reign of Premier Koizumi about just 1.5 years ago, 3rd Prime Minister will be elected by just ruling party MPs this month. Where will the boat "JAPAN" be heading? Sigh!

We keep telling you! Prime Minister Shingo is the solution! Surely GPMS could take the helm of the great boat "Japan" and lead it to prosperity!
I will take it as a great complement but there is no extra credits given for the educational reason. -GTS
I know I will be still be in class after hiragana memorization, and I hope my partner Elizabeth will still be there too, but she is having trouble with them. I imagine the hiragana test will scare some people away, hopefully the guy next to us who want stop talking to himself will be one of them!
I hope you will spend some time in class talking abut Fukuda-san! I'm interested to hear your take on the issue since you are native!
I know some people going away from the Japanese class b/c writing systems. But hopefully they would come back in future! There are quite a few students taking Japanese 1101 several times and I am prod of having them as well. Fukuda-san? Just irresponsible! -GTS
Why do the prime ministers keep resigning?

Mysterious Chairs seem to be filled by "non-registered" loyal students! Prime ministers keep resigning because they are incapable. Don't you think?
Seems like the Japanese government is also having the issue of fushigina isu ne?

Hmm... They think their incapable, or they just don't want to bear the responsibility any more? I'm not sure which frustrates me more; having an incapable leader that's willing to remain or a some-what capable leader that doesn't finish the term.

Capable leaders never quit as capable students find out how to study by themselves. The American election is really fun this year. This is the 6th presidential election in my life in America! -GTS
You never cease to amaze me with how vague you can be, but then I kick myself for realizing I didn't ask the right question. -_-;;
Who are you voting for?
If I assume that the Republican president is elected again, at least McCain is better than any other Republican candidates though Parin is too concervative for me to give in. BTW, her collection of glasses are from Japan's design! Now if Obama is elected, I am getting to be proud of being the resident in America. I do hate the way people describe this election simply as 'Race vs. Gender' -GTS

Well everyones talking about how our age group I think it was '85-'90 that has the most voting power in this election, and thats a young group of people.
Although I DO like Obama, I dislike how a majority of his loyal following probably knows nothing more than his favorite color...

I would like him to get elected..but..I'd rather our president not be chosen on a fad...
Haha! Well, at least Obama is easy for Japanese people to pronounce and write in Roma-ji for next 4 years. I am sure we will visit Obama-city in Fukui prefecture located not too far from Kyoto if he is elected! -GTS

I agree with Julia. I was going to vote for Obama, but I waver back and forth now between voting for him and just being a registered non-voter.
The pop-culture fad that Obama has become is terrifying. The last time a charismatic speaker was so blindly followed was Hitler. I think that's something to be cautious about.
Obama seems sincere though, and I do like that.

I've been telling my friends that from the start! All they have been saying though is that I'm an idiot/pessimist for thinking that way...Now I"m not saying that Obama is Hitler or anything....but honestly I always get this weird feeling from him...
When people are so charismatic like that it always makes me wonder what they could sway others to believe..It's like this facade and freaks me out...

Chibi, if you are having trouble deciding who to vote for... just do what max did in the primaries and write in "Vin Diesel" :-D I am glad to read that i am not the only person under the age of 25 who cares enough about the election to look beyond who's running and into what they are all about! An uneducated voter on either side does no good. As for the Prime Minister problem in Japan, what do you think is the solution Shingo? Is it just a matter of finding the right person? or is there something more wrong with the position, maybe he needs more support from the Diet?
Japan needs the lower house congress election now to see what people in general want though many youngsters are so apathetic these days. -GTS
From what I have been reading, Fukuda-san is used to an old way of doing politics where there was little opposition. Now there is much opposition between the LDP and the JDP and the upper house and the lower house. Is Fukuda-san too lazy to fight for what he believes in?
